Go Play in Traffic

Go Play in Traffic

I believe we are only ever one opportunity away from a totally different life.

How do we discover that opportunity?

By playing in traffic (not literally).

For a shot at that opportunity, we have to put ourselves in a position for friction.

For a chance at getting “hit.”

How do we do this?

We do this by asking the girl out.

Starting the business.

Sending the message.

Booking the flight.

Posting the thing.

Showing up.

This is what kids these days call "getting motion".

For me, this looked like starting 1LIFE.

Moving across the country.

Starting a run club.

Putting myself out there, despite being really, really, really nervous.

And yeah, it’s vulnerable as fuck.

Because 99% of people spend most of their lives on the sidewalk, too scared to step into the road.

Let’s be honest, who wants to get hit by a car?

Even if that “car” is an opportunity, it’s still a CAR coming at you.

And what if you step into traffic… and nothing happens?

What if you don’t get hit?

That’s embarrassing.

So instead, most people never step beyond the curb.

But here’s the thing.

You don’t have to sprint into traffic.

You can simply walk onto the road.

Sit down.

Get some asphalt stains on your clothes.

Smell the fumes of the cars.

Touch the painted lines.

Even without any traffic, you can know you're a hundred steps ahead of the you who was just observing from the sidewalk.

You are just one opportunity away from a totally different life.

But it's only possible if you step out into the road.

Go play in traffic.
